How funds are used

Contributions support youth leadership development, community service, career exploration and competition for young people aged 14 to 20. In practice that means uniforms and equipment, instructional materials, training supplies, competition registration and travel, service project costs, and recognition.

Restricted gifts — money given for a specific purpose such as competition travel — are tracked separately and spent only on that purpose.

Financial controls

  • Cash collected at fundraising events is counted by two adults, and the person turning it in receives a written receipt on the spot
  • Every expense requires a documented purpose, a receipt, and an approver
  • Travel costs are allocated per traveler, so youth program costs are distinguishable from adult costs
  • Online donations are processed by a third-party platform; this organization never handles card details
  • Books are maintained in commercial accounting software and reconciled monthly

Governance

The organization is governed by a volunteer board. Board members serve without compensation. No director, officer, volunteer or program participant may receive any part of the organization’s net earnings, and the organization operates exclusively for its exempt purposes.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent or trade donor information
  • We do not participate in any political campaign for or against a candidate for public office
  • We do not conduct fundraising on behalf of, or in the name of, any government agency
  • We do not publish personal information about the young people in the program

This organization is not a federal agency and holds no governmental authority. It is not operated, sponsored, endorsed or funded by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Homeland Security, any other government agency, or the City of McAllen. Participation by government employees in their personal capacity, or the use of any government facility, does not make this organization a government activity. Donations to this organization are not donations to the United States Government.

The youth program this organization supports participates in Exploring, a program of Scouting America. This website and all fundraising conducted through it are activities of McAllen Explorer Post 1924 alone. No Scouting America, Boy Scouts of America or Exploring trademark is used on this site.
