Privacy policy

McAllen Explorer Post 1924 collects only the information it needs to operate a youth program and a charitable organization.

From this website we collect what you type into a form: your name, contact details, and what you tell us. We use it to respond to you and to administer the program or your contribution. We do not sell, rent, trade or share it for anyone else’s marketing.

About young people we collect the minimum necessary. We do not publish personal information about anyone under 18 on this website. We do not publish photographs of young people without a signed media release from a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians may review, correct or request deletion of information about their child by writing to leadership@post1924.org.

Payments are processed by a third-party platform. This organization never receives or stores card numbers.

Retention. Financial and program records are kept as long as required for legal, tax and audit purposes. Information no longer needed is deleted.

Requests. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, write to leadership@post1924.org.

This website is provided for information about the organization and its program. Content is provided in good faith and may change without notice. Links to other websites are provided for convenience and do not constitute endorsement of their content.

You may not use this site to transmit unlawful, harassing or harmful material, to attempt unauthorised access, or to collect information about others.

Donor privacy

We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise share donor information with any other organization for any purpose.

Donors may request to be recognised publicly, to remain anonymous, or to receive no communications at all, and we honour that. Donation records are accessible only to the small number of people who administer the organization’s finances.

Donation terms

Contributions are made to McAllen Explorer Post 1924, a Texas nonprofit corporation exempt under IRC section 501(c)(3). EIN 33-1860421.

Contributions are deductible to the extent permitted by law. Where you receive goods or services in return — a meal, an item, an event admission, or sponsorship recognition — only the amount paid above the fair market value of what you received may be deductible, and your receipt will state the value provided. Purchases at a fundraising event are generally not deductible.

Donated services are generally not deductible as charitable contributions. For donated goods, this organization describes the item but does not assign a value; that determination is yours. We are not tax advisors and recommend you consult your own.

Contributions are non-refundable except where made in error. Contact fundraising@post1924.org within 30 days if you believe an error occurred.

Restricted gifts are used for the stated purpose. If a restricted purpose becomes impracticable, the board may redirect the gift to a closely related purpose and will notify the donor where practical.

Fundraising disclosures

All fundraising conducted by or on behalf of McAllen Explorer Post 1924 is carried out by the organization for its own charitable purposes. No professional fundraiser or commercial co-venturer is engaged.

Purchases are not donations

We raise money in two different ways, and they are treated differently.

A donation is money given without receiving anything of value in return. It is deductible to the extent allowed by law and we issue a receipt.

A purchase is money paid for something you receive — a meal, a ticket, an item of merchandise, admission to an event. The purchase price of goods or services is generally not deductible as a charitable contribution. Where you pay more than the fair market value of what you receive, only the excess may be deductible, and our receipt will state the value of what was provided. Where sales tax applies, it is included in the advertised price.

Auctions and sales

At a silent or live auction, we publish a good-faith estimate of the fair market value of each item before bidding. Only the amount you pay above that value may be deductible. Winning an item at or below its stated value produces no charitable deduction.

Donors who contribute goods or services for sale receive a written acknowledgment describing the item. Consistent with IRS rules, we describe donated property but do not assign it a value — that determination belongs to the donor. Donated services are generally not deductible at all, though we are no less grateful for them.

Sweepstakes and promotional drawings

Where the organization conducts a promotional drawing, the official rules for that promotion govern, are published with it, and set out eligibility requirements, entry dates, prize details, the drawing method and a free method of entry. No purchase or contribution is ever necessary to enter or win. Payments made in connection with a promotional entry are generally not deductible as charitable contributions. Void where prohibited.

Raffles

Texas regulates charitable raffles and restricts which organizations may hold them and how many they may hold each year. This organization does not conduct raffles unless and until it qualifies under the Texas Charitable Raffle Enabling Act, and any raffle we do conduct will comply with its requirements. A drawing described on this site as a sweepstakes is not a raffle: entry is free and no purchase is required.

Prizes

Prize winners are responsible for any tax owed on prizes, including IRS reporting on prizes valued at $600 or more. Any age-restricted or regulated prize is fulfilled exclusively through an appropriately licensed dealer in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local law; this organization does not handle, store or transfer regulated items.

Refunds and results

Purchases are generally final. If something goes wrong — an event is cancelled, an order cannot be fulfilled, or a payment was made in error — contact fundraising@post1924.org and we will make it right.

Results of past promotional drawings are published with the winner ledger and a recording of the drawing.

Political activity

As a 501(c)(3) organization we do not participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for elective public office.

Organizational relationship

McAllen Explorer Post 1924 is an independent Texas nonprofit corporation. It is not a federal, state or local government agency, holds no governmental or law enforcement authority, and is not operated, sponsored, endorsed, authorised or funded by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Homeland Security, any other government agency, or the City of McAllen.

Adult volunteers act in their personal capacity. Participation by government employees as volunteers, or the use of any government facility, does not make this organization or its fundraising a government activity. Donations to this organization are not donations to the United States Government.

The youth program this organization supports participates in Exploring, a program of Scouting America. Scouting America does not conduct this organization’s fundraising and is not responsible for its finances or for the content of this website. No Scouting America, Boy Scouts of America or Exploring trademark is used on this site. Official youth registration is completed through Scouting America’s own processes.
